Fatal Gainesville hit-and-run death of Timothy Scott Rinehart – Obituary

Timothy Scott Rinehart, 44, of Laurel, Maryland, lost his life early Thursday, June 5, after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Lee Highway near Virginia Oaks Drive in Gainesville, Virginia.

According to Prince William County Police, officers responded to the scene around 1:57 a.m. and found Rinehart deceased upon arrival.

Authorities reported that the driver responsible for the collision fled the scene immediately after the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that a vehicle traveling northbound on Lee Highway hit Rinehart and continued without stopping.

Police believe the suspect’s vehicle may be white in color and likely sustained damage to the front. Investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit are still seeking information from the public that could lead to the identification of the driver involved.

The case remains under investigation.
