Fatal Rockford car crash death of Lenin Salazar-Hernandez – Obituary
Lenin Salazar-Hernandez, a 40-year-old resident of Rockford originally from San Marcos, Carazo, Nicaragua, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Friday, June 6.
According to officials from the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, Salazar-Hernandez was driving westbound on Harrison Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed.
Emergency personnel arrived to find Salazar-Hernandez unresponsive and not breathing. Despite efforts to revive him, he was transported to a hospital where he later died due to his injuries.
Reports from Canal 10, a news outlet in Nicaragua, confirmed his hometown and background. Salazar-Hernandez had reportedly come to the United States in July 2022 with the hope of building a better life for himself and his family.
A GoFundMe campaign launched in his memory indicates that he leaves behind a wife and two children in Nicaragua. The fundraiser is intended to cover funeral expenses and help repatriate his body so his family can lay him to rest in his homeland.
