Jared Oswald, a missing Rochester man, was found deceased in the Genesee River on Sunday evening near Turning Point Park, where he was last seen, authorities confirmed. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office officially identified his body on Monday.

 

Oswald, affectionately known as “Bear” by his family and friends, disappeared after leaving home for work on Monday morning. Surveillance footage later showed him heading to the park instead of his workplace. His loved ones described him as an adventurous spirit who was deeply connected to his family and community.

 

Friends, family, and volunteers had been searching tirelessly for Oswald, organizing search efforts from a command center set up at RCSD School No. 42. His sister, Esther Kwong, spoke of his kind nature, generosity, and the profound impact he had on everyone who knew him.

 

Oswald’s brother expressed the shock and numbness felt by the family following the confirmation of his death, sharing the difficult journey they face as they begin to grieve.
