Fatal Lakeland pedestrian crash death of Jerald King – Obituary

An early morning collision on U.S. Highway 98 in Lakeland resulted in the death of 68-year-old Jerald King. Authorities say the incident occurred around 6 a.m. Tuesday near the 1300 block of U.S. 98 South when a Tesla traveling northbound struck King as he was walking in a crosswalk.

Lakeland Police reported that the Tesla driver had the green light and that King was crossing despite a posted no-walk signal.

The driver remained at the location following the crash and did not appear to have any injuries, though they were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

King, a Lakeland resident, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Travis Payne.
