Fatal Howard County shooting death of Samuel Louie Booker IV – Obituary

Samuel Louie Booker IV, 26, of Columbia, Maryland, was shot and killed by a Howard County police officer on Monday evening, June 9, after allegedly confronting the officer with a large spear.

According to the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division, police responded around 7:24 p.m. to a residence on the 9200 block of Wilbur Court following reports that Booker, believed to be in his 20s, had been brutally stabbed by a family member. Booker later fled the scene and was located at the intersection of Oakland Mills Road and Carters Lane with a spear in hand, having called 911 himself. When he refused to disarm and approached the officer, he was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The stabbing victim from the residence remains in critical condition at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center as of the latest update. No officers suffered injuries.

The Howard County Police Department confirmed the Maryland Independent Investigations Division has taken over the case as per state law. The full circumstances are still under review, with investigators expected to release additional details in due course.

Authorities emphasized this remains an ongoing matter and urged anyone with pertinent information to contact the IID to assist with their inquiry.
