Fatal Southeast DC stabbing death of Devante Offutt – Obituary

Devante Offutt, a 30-year-old resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was killed in a stabbing inside an apartment in Southeast Washington, DC, on Friday, June 13, 2025. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District were dispatched to the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue SE at approximately 2:28 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, police found Offutt unresponsive and suffering from a stab wound. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Offutt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Deja Hines of Southeast DC, was arrested at the scene. A knife was recovered, and Hines was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed. Investigators have determined that the incident was domestic in nature.

The case remains under the investigation of MPD detectives.
