Fatal Ariton shooting death of Shawn Christian Watson – Obituary

Shawn Christian Watson, 38, was shot and killed while sleeping in his bed early Saturday morning in Ariton, Alabama.

Authorities responded to a 911 call at 2:34 a.m. reporting a shooting at a residence in the 1000 block of West Main Street. Several children in the home dialed emergency services after hearing the gunfire, according to Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum.

 

When deputies arrived, they discovered Watson unresponsive in bed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Dale County Coroner John Cawley. His body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a complete autopsy.

 

Watson’s wife, 42-year-old Annie Huffstutler, has been arrested and charged with murder. She was taken into custody around 6 a.m. and remains in the Dale County Jail without bond.

 

Authorities have reached out to Wiregrass Angel House, an organization that supports crime victims, to offer assistance to the affected family members as they process the tragic loss.
