Clayton Tyler Dodson dies in fatal Maury County shooting

Fatal Maury County shooting death of Clayton Tyler Dodson – Obituary

Clayton Tyler Dodson, 25, died following an early morning encounter with law enforcement in Maury County, Tennessee, where he allegedly opened fire on a deputy.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that the incident occurred around 3 a.m. at a gas station along the 2400 block of New Lewisburg Highway in Columbia. Deputies responded to reports of suspected drug activity and a couple involved in a dispute. When deputies approached a vehicle with a man and woman inside, Dodson reportedly drew a firearm and shot one of the deputies in the chest, striking the deputy’s protective vest.

Both deputies returned fire, hitting Dodson. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The deputy who was shot suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.
