Jacob Buchele dies in fatal Erie Township dirt bike and train collision

Fatal Erie Township crash death of Jacob Buchele – Obituary

Jacob Buchele, 31, from Michigan, tragically lost his life after crashing his dirt bike into a moving train on Saturday evening in Erie Township, Monroe County. The accident took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the railroad crossing on Sterns Road. According to authorities, the dirt bike was traveling westbound when it crossed left of center to bypass the lowered railroad crossing gate and warning signals. At the same time, a northbound train was passing through the crossing.

Buchele collided with the train, was thrown from his bike, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Norfolk Southern railroad crossing was the site of the incident, and investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing.
