Chloee Compton, a 14-year-old from Medaryville, tragically lost her life in a house fire that occurred recently in Pulaski County.
Emergency responders arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, and despite efforts to save her, Chloee was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of death remains under investigation.
Firefighters were informed that a juvenile remained inside the residence when they first arrived. While battling the blaze, they were unfortunately unable to reach her. Other occupants who escaped the fire, including Donna Compton-Grinnell and three children aged 13, 11, and 8, were treated on site by Pulaski County EMS.
Counselors visited West Central High School to support the freshman class, staff, and students affected by this tragic event. Authorities, including the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office, are investigating the cause of the fire, with preliminary findings suggesting it was accidental and linked to faulty wiring.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s office, local fire departments, EMS, the Coroner’s Office, and the State Fire Marshal’s office are collaborating on the investigation.
