Fatal Deep Ellum shooting death of Jose Rodriguez-Lucio – Obituary

Jose Rodriguez-Lucio, 32, was fatally shot early on June 15 in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas after reportedly attempting to enter and take possession of a pickup truck.

Police responded to the 200 block of South Hall Street just after midnight, where they found Rodriguez-Lucio inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to investigators, a man and woman had been in the truck searching for a parking spot when the man briefly left to talk with friends nearby. During that time, Rodriguez-Lucio approached on foot and jumped into the vehicle. The woman exited, and the truck’s owner returned, producing a handgun and firing at Rodriguez-Lucio.

Paramedics arrived quickly but were unable to save him. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the circumstances of the incident. If it is confirmed Rodriguez-Lucio was trying to steal the truck, the case will likely proceed to a grand jury for potential charges.
