Fatal Salt Lake City shooting death of Arthur Folasa Ah Loo – Obituary
Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, a 39-year-old Utah resident, died Saturday evening after being shot during the “No Kings” protest held in downtown Salt Lake City.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near 151 S. State Street, where an estimated 10,000 people had gathered to march peacefully against recent federal policies.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd reported that Ah Loo was an innocent bystander caught in the shooting and was not the intended target. Responding officers found him wounded and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the chaos, three individuals connected to the shooting were detained. Among them, 24-year-old Arturo Roberto Gamboa was also shot and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police later arrested and charged Gamboa with murder.
According to investigators, Gamboa was seen manipulating a rifle and was confronted by two armed individuals acting as event peacekeepers. When Gamboa raised the weapon and moved toward the crowd, one peacekeeper fired multiple shots, striking both Gamboa and Folasa Ah Loo. Police confirmed that Gamboa did not fire any shots.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather witness accounts and evidence. Community members and leaders expressed sorrow and called for calm, emphasizing that such violence is unacceptable during peaceful demonstrations.
