Fatal James Madison University dorm death of Bernard Stapelfeld – Obituary

Bernard Stapelfeld, a 19-year-old freshman from Pennsylvania, was found dead early Thursday morning in his dorm room at Frederickson Hall on the James Madison University campus.

The Virginia State Police were called to investigate the discovery at approximately 2:30 a.m. following a request from JMU Police Department.

At this stage of the investigation, officials have not found any evidence of foul play. Bernard was an active member of the university’s Borderline Ski and Snowboard Club, which shared condolences and offered support to fellow students during this difficult time.

JMU has made counseling services available for students and staff affected by the loss. The investigation remains open as authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding Bernard’s death.
