A deadly accident in Dillon County on Friday afternoon claimed the life of 23-year-old Zavion Wheeler from Bennettsville, according to authorities.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened shortly after noon at around 12:31 p.m. along South Long Street Road, close to the intersection with Homelight Road.

Officials said the wreck involved a single vehicle—a 2023 Dodge Charger carrying three individuals. During the incident, two passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries, while Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators stated that the car was attempting to flee from law enforcement when it veered off the road to the left, slammed into a ditch, and flipped over.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
