Fatal Huntsville shooting death of Nicholas Kyle Howell
A young man from Huntsville has died after being shot during an early morning transaction, according to local police.
Nicholas Kyle Howell, 22, was found by Huntsville officers around 1 a.m. lying on the roadway at Telstar and Baldwin Circle. He had sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
Howell informed officers he had been in the area of the 3900 block of Rucker Circle with a friend when he was shot. Police began investigating and uncovered physical evidence at a nearby apartment complex, leading them to a potential suspect inside one of the units.
Investigators say Howell had arranged to meet 25-year-old Amber Marie Baker to purchase items. During that meeting, Baker allegedly pulled a firearm and shot Howell. She was initially arrested on a first-degree assault charge.
Following Howell’s death later that morning, the charge against Baker was upgraded to murder. She is currently being held at the Madison County Jail.
