Authorities charged 24-year-old Jonathan Martinez with murder, describing the case as stemming from a domestic conflict. The affidavit notes that Martinez confessed to shooting Fonseca after receiving a call from his former girlfriend, who claimed Fonseca had assaulted her.

Police reported that Martinez was apprehended by the fugitive task force in Fort Worth without any resistance.
