Kristofer Whittemore, 39, was found deceased following a devastating house fire on Maintenance Lane in Newfield. Authorities discovered human remains during a search of the burnt residence, where Whittemore was believed to be inside at the time of the blaze.

The charred two-story home was completely destroyed in the fire. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy and to confirm the identity.

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. No further details have been released as the inquiry continues.
