Paul Lyons dies in fatal Decatur car crash

Fatal Decatur car crash death of Paul Lyons

Paul A. Lyons, 68, of Decatur, has been identified as the man who lost his life in a car accident that took place Friday afternoon, June 13, at the intersection of West Rock Springs Road and Westgate Drive.

According to the Decatur Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:11 p.m. when Lyons, driving a red 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was positioned in the eastbound lane facing westbound. Authorities reported that the vehicle suddenly turned right, crossing into the westbound lane in an attempt to reach a driveway on the north side of Rock Springs Road.

At that moment, a tan Chevrolet 1500 pickup traveling westbound on Rock Springs Road struck the passenger side of Lyons’ PT Cruiser. The truck was driven by an 18-year-old Decatur resident, who had a juvenile passenger with him. Both sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Lyons was also transported to a local medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators from the Fatal Accident Investigation Team arrived at the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
