Mason Derks dies in fatal St. Petersburg motorcycle crash

Fatal St. Petersburg motorcycle crash death of Mason Derks

Mason Derks, a 19-year-old motorcyclist, died on Friday night after being involved in a crash with an SUV in St. Petersburg.

The collision took place around 10 p.m. as Derks was heading north on Park Street North, nearing 28th Avenue North. At the same time, a Mazda SUV traveling west on 28th Avenue North attempted a left turn onto southbound Park Street North, cutting across the path of Derks’ Kawasaki motorcycle.

Derks sustained critical injuries and was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront in St. Petersburg, where he was later pronounced dead. His family has been notified.

The SUV driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
