John Owen dies in fatal Vicksburg fire

Fatal Vicksburg fire death of John Owen

John Owen, a resident of Vicksburg, has been identified as the individual who lost his life in a house fire that broke out Monday evening.

 

Emergency crews with the Vicksburg Fire Department responded at approximately 6:09 p.m. to a blaze at 338 Marian Lane. When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw smoke billowing from every side of the building, with flames shooting out from the roof.

 

According to Fire Chief Derrick Stamps, the fire was successfully contained to the bathroom area. Inside, firefighters discovered an unresponsive man who had died from smoke inhalation. He was later confirmed to be John Owen.

 

Owen had served the city as Assistant Traffic Supervisor in the traffic department and was known for his dedication to public service.

 

Mayor George Flaggs Jr. expressed heartfelt condolences, saying Owen represented the best qualities of the city’s workforce and that his passing is a significant loss for the community.

 

Mayor-elect Willis Thompson also offered sympathies, asking residents to keep Owen’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this sorrowful time.

 

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire. Owen’s body has been transported to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
