Fatal Gainesville roadway death of Andres Mateo Hernandez

Authorities have confirmed that 31-year-old Andres Mateo Hernandez of Gainesville was the man discovered dead in a Gainesville street on Sunday, June 1.

Hernandez’s body was found lying unresponsive near the intersection of McConnell Drive and Mountaincrest Drive just before 3:30 a.m. A witness had called 911 after reportedly hearing the sound of a crash, prompting emergency services to respond. Paramedics pronounced Hernandez deceased at the location.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau is actively looking into what led to his death. While the exact cause has not been determined, officials are waiting on autopsy findings to provide more clarity.

Investigators have not eliminated any possible explanations, including the potential that Hernandez was struck by a passing vehicle that fled or that he collapsed for a different, unknown reason.

Law enforcement kept the area closed to traffic for over three hours that morning while collecting evidence and examining the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have details related to the case to reach out to Investigator Bray at 770-533-7813.

Officials have informed Hernandez’s family of his passing.
