Fatal Wichita shooting death of Jesus Aguilera
Authorities in Wichita responded to a deadly shooting late Saturday night near 22nd Street and Hillside Avenue. The incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from local officers.
Emergency personnel discovered 36-year-old Jesus Aguilera, a resident of Wichita, suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced deceased at 10:35 p.m.
Investigators quickly identified 39-year-old Rosendo Camacho-Garcia, also of Wichita, as the prime suspect. A search ensued, and by Sunday, police received a tip that led them to a home located in the 800 block of South Longfellow.
Upon arrival, officers found Camacho-Garcia had locked himself inside the house. The Wichita Police SWAT unit responded and initiated extended negotiations in both English and Spanish, which lasted roughly seven hours. Throughout the standoff, Camacho-Garcia reportedly fired several rounds at officers.
Police eventually used chemical agents, forcing Camacho-Garcia to surrender. He was apprehended with the assistance of a K9 unit, which caused injuries requiring medical attention at a hospital.
Following his release from the hospital, Camacho-Garcia was booked on multiple serious charges, including homicide and aggravated assault on law enforcement personnel.
