Independence Man Robert Cordato Arrested in Jackson County for June 12 Triple Shooting
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — Robert Cordato, a resident of Independence, was arrested in Jackson County in connection with a June 12 shooting that left one man dead, a woman critically wounded, and a juvenile injured.
According to Independence Police Department, Cordato was taken into custody the day after the incident during an arrest in Blue Summit. The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of South Brookside Avenue, where Cordato allegedly entered a home wearing a gas mask and carrying a gun.
Court documents state Cordato is charged with first-degree murder, multiple counts of first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and armed criminal action. The man killed has been identified as Robert Smith Jr., while the woman remains in critical condition. The juvenile victim, who was shot three times, is recovering.
Cordato is currently held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.
