Fatal Conyers shooting death of Dearrious Davenport
A Friday-night gunfire incident on Janice Lane in Conyers claimed the life of 30-year-old Dearrious Davenport, a U.S. Army veteran and father.
Police say multiple 911 calls around 11 p.m. led officers to find Davenport lying in the street with a chest wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene just a week before Father’s Day.
Detectives quickly named 26-year-old Tamorris D’tron Tyler as the prime suspect and launched an intensive manhunt that ended around 5 a.m. Saturday when SWAT teams from Conyers Police and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody; Tyler now faces murder and weapon-possession charges.
Less than a day after the homicide, shots were fired at Forest Villas on Forest Villa Drive, several neighborhoods away; investigators believe this second crime—where a 3-year-old and a 15-year-old sat unharmed in a car that was struck—is linked to Davenport’s killing, though no arrest has been made in that case.
Davenport’s wife, Aaliyah McGriff, who discovered she is pregnant with their third child together only days after the tragedy, remembered her husband as a devoted provider, protector, and community-minded Conyers native; the couple already shared four children between them.
McGriff urges the public to treasure family and life while an online fundraiser assists with funeral costs and ongoing care for the children; anyone with information about the second shooting or additional details is asked to contact Conyers Police or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
