Fatal New Orleans shooting death of D’Angelo Davis
D’Angelo Davis, 62, was fatally shot on Bienville Street, one of two victims in a violent overnight incident in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward that has left residents deeply unsettled.
As investigators work to gather details, many in the neighborhood remain on edge. Loud bursts of gunfire woke residents during the night, leading to widespread concern.
Reporter Shay O’Connor of WDSU provided live coverage from the area, highlighting how home surveillance footage is playing a key role in reconstructing the events.
Residents recounted hearing what sounded like a teenage gathering before things turned violent. According to locals, the night began relatively quietly but quickly escalated.
Jessica Mullen, who lives in the neighborhood, recalled, “It was calm at first, but then you heard five or six shots back to back. There were a lot of young people out for a party. Something must’ve happened, and a few hours later, we heard the gunfire.”
According to New Orleans police, a young male was walking back from a local store when he was confronted by a group of at least four individuals. Gunfire erupted shortly after, and two people were hospitalized. The young male later succumbed to his injuries.
“I heard people shouting they’d been hit, but I didn’t see anything myself—no idea who it was or how old they were,” said another resident.
Security footage from nearby homes captured a group of teenagers strolling along the street at around 2:20 a.m., followed by them running back minutes later. Law enforcement vehicles arrived at the scene shortly before 3 a.m.
Additional video from the area showed police searching near a residence, likely looking for evidence or suspects.
“We don’t go outside when there’s shooting. We stay put and wait for help. But we didn’t hear any sirens—not from ambulances or police,” a neighbor stated.
By late Monday morning, many locals—including Mullen—had learned that a young individual had died in the incident.
“It’s heartbreaking. He had his whole future ahead. We need more programs or spaces around here to keep these kids busy and safe,” she added.
Authorities have yet to release the identity or age of the juvenile victim. The homeowners of the property where the party occurred declined to speak to the media.
