Fatal Lawrence County shooting death of Larry Petersen
Larry Petersen, a 59-year-old man from Audubon, Iowa, has been confirmed as the individual who was fatally shot during a violent altercation near Lead, South Dakota, on June 12.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Petersen was killed during a confrontation involving four men at a rental cabin located along Highway 385, just south of Lead. The group had been visiting the Black Hills together as UTV riders.
Authorities reported that three of the men were guests at the cabin when a dispute broke out. During the altercation, one of the individuals pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot Petersen.
Emergency responders transported Petersen to the Lead-Deadwood hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials have not yet named the shooter but stated that the case remains under investigation. Further updates are expected as the inquiry continues.
