Timothy Meagher, a 58-year-old resident of Webberville, was struck and killed by a semi-truck on Interstate 96 in Ingham County on Sunday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office along with the Northeast Ingham Emergency Services Authority responded to the scene near the M-52 overpass on the westbound side of I-96 after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit by a semi-truck.

When first responders arrived, they found Meagher’s body on the roadway. Investigators determined that Meagher had entered the westbound lanes before being struck by the semi-truck.

The incident caused the closure of I-96 around 11:45 a.m., with the highway reopening at 3:43 p.m. later that day.

The Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team and the Medical Examiner’s Office were involved in identifying Meagher and conducting the investigation.

Authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash and have asked witnesses or anyone in the vicinity at the time to reach out to Deputy Ben Manns at 517-676-8444.
