Fatal Monticello car crash death of Susan Rintoul

Susan Rintoul, a 69-year-old woman from Minot, North Dakota, was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 94 in Monticello on Wednesday evening, June 18.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:20 p.m. as four vehicles—a Chevrolet Traverse, a Ford F350, a Ford Focus, and a Freightliner Cascadia—were traveling eastbound. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a rear-end collision initiated the chain reaction involving all vehicles.

Rintoul, a passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Traverse sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. The drivers of the other two passenger vehicles, the Ford F350 and the Ford Focus, were taken to local hospitals but were not seriously hurt.

Traffic was significantly delayed in the aftermath of the collision, though the roadway was cleared and conditions normalized later that evening.

The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
