Brent Bucholtz dies in fatal Highland Park shooting

Fatal Highland Park shooting death of Brent Bucholtz

Brent Bucholtz, 59, was shot and killed by Highland Park police early Friday morning after allegedly charging at officers with a knife.

The incident occurred on the 900-block of Half Day Road, where officers had responded to a well-being check following a report from a concerned driver about a man lying in the street.

Upon arriving, officers found Bucholtz inside a home. When they knocked on the door, he suddenly exited holding a knife and refused commands to drop it. Instead, Bucholtz advanced toward the officers while threatening them, prompting the officers to fire.

Emergency personnel attempted to save Bucholtz’s life, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity. Half Day Road was closed for police activity, and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force is leading the ongoing investigation.
