Fatal North Miami Beach shooting death of Salem Albakri
Salem Albakri, 35, was fatally shot during an armed robbery at his smoke shop in North Miami Beach on June 11.
Authorities arrested 18-year-old Tarvan Bowens on Wednesday, charging him with first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with Albakri’s death. Bowens is the second suspect apprehended, following the arrest of 23-year-old William Robinson last August.
Surveillance footage captured the moment four men entered Miami Cloudz at 2063 Northeast 163rd Street, confronted Albakri, and requested to see merchandise. Bowens drew a gun and shot Albakri in the back as he tried to escape toward the rear of the store. Albakri was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators linked Robinson to the crime through fingerprints found on the counter and revealed that both Robinson and Bowens were co-defendants in a 2023 burglary case. Bowens’ sister also identified him as the shooter. Police continue searching for two additional suspects involved.
Friends and coworkers remember Albakri fondly, expressing that his presence is deeply missed at the store.
