Fatal Oceanside shooting death of Malietoa Rasmussen
Malietoa Rasmussen, 38, was fatally shot in Oceanside on June 7, authorities confirmed.
Oceanside investigators arrested 36-year-old Osvaldo Lopez in connection with the incident. Lopez was taken into custody without resistance following a search of his Kraft Street residence.
Rasmussen was found with a gunshot wound to the torso near a canyon east of Interstate 5 on Country Club Lane and died at the scene before emergency responders could transport him to a hospital.
Lopez, who was reportedly friends with Rasmussen prior to the shooting, pleaded not guilty in Vista Superior Court and was denied bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for next month.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details about the motive or circumstances have not yet been released.
