Fatal Groesbeck crash death of Dawson Chandler

Dawson Chandler, a 22-year-old man from Conroe, Texas, was killed in a head-on collision that occurred early Friday morning near Groesbeck.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. on June 20 along State Highway 164 near County Road 396, where a Chevrolet Silverado traveling east reportedly veered into the opposite lane and slammed into a tractor trailer.

Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that Chandler, who was behind the wheel of the Silverado, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco and is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the collision, traffic was rerouted as emergency crews responded and cleared the area. The roadway reopened later that morning at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the fatal crash.
