Fatal San Antonio house fire death of Ellen Musgrave
A tragic house fire early Thursday morning on the Northwest Side of San Antonio claimed the life of 78-year-old Ellen Musgrave, officials confirmed.
San Antonio Fire Department crews responded around 3:30 a.m. to a blaze in the 200 block of Southill Road, situated between Babcock and Fredericksburg Roads.
Authorities said it’s still unclear what sparked the fire. Neighbors, who were known to look after Musgrave, told responders that she lived in the home by herself.
Attempts by arriving police officers to enter the residence were unsuccessful due to the intense smoke filling the home. Firefighters noted that the flames were concentrated at the back of the structure.
When fire crews reached the scene, they quickly got to work extinguishing the fire and pulled Musgrave from the residence. Sadly, she was declared deceased at the location.
Investigators from the arson unit have been called in to determine how the fire started.
According to SAFD, the back section of the house suffered moderate fire damage.
