Harry Smead dies in fatal Jackson County crash

Fatal Jackson County crash death of Harry Smead

Harry Smead, 74, from Lemon Grove, California, lost his life Tuesday afternoon in a collision on Interstate 5 near milepost 4, close to Ashland in Jackson County. The Oregon State Police reported the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m.

 

According to the initial investigation, a black Honda Civic driven by Terielizabeth Smead, 68, also from Lemon Grove, was traveling northbound when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off the road and struck a stationary Freightliner semi-truck and trailer. The truck was parked and operated by 30-year-old Shekib Hakimi from Carmichael, California.

 

Harry Smead, a passenger in the Honda, was declared dead at the scene. Terielizabeth Smead was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while the semi-truck driver remained uninjured. The highway remained closed for approximately five hours while authorities conducted their on-site investigation.
