A 49-year-old man, identified as Kenneth Eugene Middleton Jr., was killed along with his dog when struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run incident in Sacramento County.

Sacramento County authorities reported the man and his dog were on an early-morning walk when both were hit. The collision occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the Home Depot parking lot located at the 5800 block of Antelope Road.

According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, both Middleton and his dog sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, confirmed the tragic outcome.

The driver involved in the incident fled the scene. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the case as of Wednesday. Law enforcement has not yet identified the suspect or released further details regarding the driver who left the scene.
