Fatal Kennesaw apartment shooting death of Jalen Parker

Jalen Parker, 24, of Kennesaw, was shot and killed during a violent confrontation at an apartment complex near the Kennesaw State University campus on Sunday night, according to Cobb Police. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. at the Bixby Kennesaw apartments on George Busbee Parkway. Officers arrived to find a woman, later identified as 40-year-old Antoinette Hammonds, suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot. She was transported to the same hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Investigators say the shooting followed an argument inside one of the apartments. Police allege that 22-year-old Anthony Lockett, also from Kennesaw and identified as Hammonds’ son, left the scene during the dispute, then returned with family members and opened fire, striking Parker. Another individual inside the apartment reportedly returned fire, and Hammonds was wounded in the exchange.

Lockett was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at the Cobb Adult Detention Center. His listed residence is an apartment complex on Hidden Forest Drive in Northeast Cobb.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting and are urging anyone with information to contact the Cobb County Police Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta.
