Manuel Jansen dies in fatal Trotwood drowning
Fatal Trotwood drowning death of Manuel Jansen
Manuel Jansen, a 23-year-old man, tragically lost his life after disappearing while swimming at Madison Lakes in Trotwood on Saturday evening.
Authorities stated that Jansen had been with a group when he went underwater and could no longer be seen. Emergency personnel from the Trotwood Fire Department arrived at the scene around 9:50 p.m. after being notified by his family of the last known location.
Search efforts were carried out by several fire departments, including those from Clayton, Englewood, Union, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, but were halted around midnight due to safety concerns and the duration Jansen had been submerged.
Rescue operations resumed early Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Additional support from Pleasant Hill-Newton Fire, Piqua Dive Team, and Buckeye Search and Rescue dogs joined the search. Jansen’s body was recovered at approximately 2 p.m. and subsequently handed over to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
In response to this latest fatality, the Trotwood Fire Department issued a public appeal urging residents to refrain from entering the waters at Madison Lakes, labeling the area as dangerously deceptive and unsuitable for swimming.
Over the past 12 years, five individuals have drowned at Madison Lakes, with three deaths occurring in just the last three years. Fire officials emphasized that frequent use of the lake by swimmers does not equate to safety, as it is neither supervised nor maintained for recreational purposes.
