A 3-year-old child unintentionally fired a gun, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old man in a Paulding County residence, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred early Monday morning when deputies arrived at a residence on Eagles Nest Drive in the Eagle’s Landing area around 7 a.m. Following their investigation, they discovered the teenager deceased from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office has concluded that this was a tragic accident and has not filed charges at this time, with their probe continuing.
The victim, identified as Kabrel Patterson, was staying overnight to visit family when he brought the firearm involved in the unintentional discharge into the home. Investigators believe the young child gained access to the weapon prior to the fatal shot being fired.
