Mary Louise Sargent dies in fatal Huntsville car crash
Fatal Huntsville car crash death of Mary Louise Sargent
Mary Louise Sargent, a 64-year-old woman from Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene of a violent collision on I-45 near State Highway 30. The incident occurred on Sunday evening.
Huntsville firefighters responded to the scene and had to extricate Sargent from her vehicle, a Kia, which had been severely damaged. DPS troopers reported that Sargent was traveling south on I-45 when her car was struck from behind by a large truck. The immense force of the impact propelled the Kia forward, causing it to collide with the vehicle ahead, a pickup truck towing a trailer.
The Kia was subsequently launched into the air, striking the pickup truck and collapsing its rear section before rolling onto its top. The 18-wheeler involved in the initial collision continued south for approximately half a mile before stopping. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the truck.
Sargent’s granddaughter, who was also present in the car, sustained serious injuries. I-45 was closed for over two hours following the incident, with intermittent periods of partial lane access during the closure.
