Fatal Granger drowning death of Joshua Nizigiyimana
In a tragic incident over the weekend, authorities reported that a six-year-old child, identified as Joshua Nizigiyimana, passed away due to drowning in a neighboring swimming pool located in Granger, Indiana. The event unfolded when emergency services were dispatched following an urgent report regarding a missing child.
Emergency responders arrived at the Conestoga Court area around 8:30 p.m. on Friday to investigate the disappearance of Joshua, who was known to be non-verbal and had autism. After approximately twenty minutes, officers located the young boy in a pool belonging to a nearby residence on Lariat Lane. He was found without any response, prompting immediate life-saving measures.
Joshua received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being transported to a medical facility. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the child did not survive the injuries. The Granger police department officially determined the cause of death as an unintentional drowning accident, highlighting the unfortunate nature of the situation.
Expressing deep condolences, the St. Joseph County Sheriff, Bill Redman, stated, “Our sympathies are with the Nizigiyimana family as they face an overwhelming tragedy. We stand in solidarity with all those affected, including neighbors and emergency personnel who responded to this devastating event.”
Joshua was a known student at Horizon Elementary School, and school administrators established a fundraising initiative to assist the family with funeral arrangements, meal services, and other urgent requirements.
