Fatal Licking County car crash death of Sandra Welch
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A fatal car accident in Licking County has left authorities conducting an investigation following a two-vehicle collision on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at the intersection of state Route 16 and Gale Road in Harrison Township around 1:05 p.m.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2019 Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on Gale Road approached a stop sign on Route 16 and failed to come to a complete stop. As a result, the vehicle was struck by a 2012 Mazda 5 moving eastbound on Route 16.
The driver of the Mazda 5, identified as 60-year-old Sandra Welch from Pataskala, was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital with severe injuries. Tragically, she was later pronounced deceased at the facility. Both the passenger in the Mazda and the driver of the Toyota sustained serious injuries and were also admitted to the same hospital.
Two passengers in the Toyota Sienna suffered minor injuries and were treated at the hospital. The ongoing crash remains under review by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
