A 62-year-old male driver was apprehended later that day. He was taken into custody by local law enforcement and subsequently transferred to the Thurston County Jail. He faces formal charges of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, according to preliminary findings. State Patrol documents suggested potential impairment by substances.
The involved Honda Civic vehicle came to a halt on the shoulder area after the collision. This prompted the driver to contact emergency services. Neither the operator nor any passenger inside the vehicle sustained injuries from the impact.
