Fatal Kansas City shooting death of David M. Smith

A man identified as 23-year-old David M. Smith died one week after suffering gunshot wounds in a pre-dawn incident in Kansas City. The original article stated he was shot outside of a venue called “The Phoenix.” Kansas City police reported the shooting occurred on June 19th at 5:15 a.m. at a location described as 8th and Central.

Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers discovered an apparently unarmed man lying motionless on the street, beside a nearby automobile. Dispatch reports indicated that emergency personnel had received calls about the sound of gunfire and the victim’s condition. Medical teams transported the injured individual to a nearby medical facility, but despite treatment, the young man did not survive his injuries. Detectives were informed on June 27th that David M. Smith had succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

Investigators are actively seeking information regarding the incident. Citizens with potential leads are encouraged to contact the Homicide unit directly via phone or through their anonymous TIPS Hotline. A substantial reward, up to $25,000, is available for information that leads to the identification and apprehension of those responsible.

This case remains an active matter under investigation.
