Fatal Levity Street shooting death of Monique Worthy
The Columbia Police Department has stated they are examining a domestic-related homicide. This was announced on Monday.
Columbia police responded to a call in the 1500 block of Levity Street late last night. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found a woman dead inside a house.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased woman as Monique Worthy. She was 42 years old and the day of her death marked her birthday.
Police have identified the suspect as Cordera Hopkins, who is 36 years old. They currently hold an active arrest warrant for him.
Hopkins faces charges including murder, possessing a weapon in a deadly crime, and unlawful firearm possession as a convicted felon.
The Columbia Police Department confirmed to WIS that Worthy was a female associate of Hopkins. However, details about their relationship remain unknown at this time.
CPD informed WIS that Worthy’s 21-year-old daughter was present when her mother was shot. The daughter’s vehicle reportedly contained a car seat, but authorities are uncertain if any young children were at the scene during the shooting.
