Robert Fidler dies in fatal Ottawa plane crash
Fatal Ottawa plane crash death of Robert Fidler
On Sunday, a small aircraft incident at the Ottawa Executive Airport led to the death of a pilot, who was reported to have constructed his own plane using a kit. This individual, Robert Fidler, lived near the runway and had built the aircraft himself.
Local airport staff and residents confirmed that the deceased was Robert Fidler, a 80-year-old man involved in aviation.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Fidler assembled a specific aircraft, the Lancair 360, which is a fixed-wing, two-passenger model, in 2022. The FAA subsequently granted the plane approval for flight readiness in October 2023.
Officials from the airport indicated that the accident took place shortly before 11 a.m. on that Sunday. The National Transportation Safety Board has started an examination into the event.
