According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, a 27-year-old man from Western has died after being struck by a falling tree. The incident occurred in the town of Western.

The law enforcement agency received an emergency call about a serious injury on Gillette Road in the early morning hours of June 28. The initial report indicated a person was injured following a traumatic event.

Deputies arrived at the property and found that Tanner Ofalt was engaged in tree removal activities. During his work, a tree came down and hit him directly. First responders on the scene began administering CPR immediately to the injured man.

Despite the prompt medical attention and subsequent treatment at Rome Hospital, where he was airlifted by AmCare Ambulance, Tanner Ofalt did not survive his injuries. Hospital personnel made every effort to save his life, but the outcome was unsuccessful.

The sheriff’s department had assistance from local fire department personnel and ambulance services at the scene. Deputies confirmed that Tanner Ofalt was employed as a dispatcher for the Oneida County Emergency Services.
