Fatal San Antonio shooting death of Marquis Darrnell Green

According to official documents from Bexar County courts, Gregory Bernard Cunningham Jr., a 34-year-old man, faces charges of murder. He is in custody after being connected to a deadly shooting that took place over the weekend at an apartment building on the East Side.

The shooting incident occurred early in the morning hours on Sunday, specifically around 4:15 a.m., in the area of Upland Drive, within the 1500 block. Police reports indicate that the victim, identified through the affidavit as Marquis Darrnell Green, who was 41 years old, was discovered lying outside an apartment unit. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Medical professionals at the scene confirmed his death.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released an official statement identifying the victim or determining the cause and manner of his death, as of Monday morning.

A person who provided testimony in the affidavit stated that the witness, who is reported to be the victim’s partner, observed Green exiting the apartment building. Shortly after, Cunningham was also seen leaving the premises. In a separate conversation with a news outlet, the witness, known as Nikki Wilson, expressed her belief that her relative, Cunningham, was responsible for the shooting. The affidavit states that Cunningham is related to Wilson but does not reveal the extent of their connection.

The official document further explains that Cunningham held a grudge against Green, thinking he had taken something valuable from him. During a dispute between the two men, a weapon was retrieved. They stepped outside into a covered walkway to resolve the issue, which involved争夺 the gun. The affidavit notes that a video recording from the location captures Cunningham managing to control the weapon and subsequently firing a shot at the victim.

Cunningham was taken into custody on the day of the incident. He is currently facing the possibility of formal charges being filed against him and is held on a bond of $250,000.

Additional coverage includes personal accounts from individuals close to the victim, such as a local resident who described her partner as having passed away in her embrace following the shooting. Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.
