Fatal Franklin County car crash death of Jesse E. Brummett Jr.

Emergency responders from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrived on Saturday evening at a remote location, 27200 West Chapel Road, after receiving a distress call about a severe motor vehicle collision.

Investigators detailed that a 2007 red Chevrolet Impala, moving rapidly in the westbound direction, surged over a rise and suffered a dramatic loss of control upon landing. It then deviated from the roadway, struck a utility pole, cut through an expanse of green grass, collided with a tree, and rebounded into the air before impacting a residence.

Tragically, both occupants in the vehicle perished as a result of the incident. Jesse E. Brummett Jr., a 51-year-old from Sunman, was confirmed as the passenger and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, Robert William Leo Dunham, aged 49 and from Oldenburg, also lost his life in the accident.

Deputies noted the presence of alcoholic beverages at the crash site. While final tests from toxicology labs are awaited, preliminary probes indicate that over-speeding was a likely contributing factor.

This ongoing fatal accident examination continues to unfold.
