Alejandro Gonzalez Magana, a 36-year-old man, passed away as a result of being shot by a suspected carjacker in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles. His identity was officially confirmed by the county’s Medical Examiner’s office on Monday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident transpired in the 9000 block of Compton Avenue around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday. Gonzalez Magana was found unresponsive on a sidewalk and pronounced deceased at the scene.
In the hours following the initial shooting, authorities were also called to another nearby location on Compton Avenue after receiving a report of a wounded individual. Upon arrival, police located a second gunshot victim who was transported to a hospital; medical staff later reported that this person was in critical but stable condition.
Investigators reported that two unknown suspects approached two individuals who were passengers in a vehicle. A physical altercation erupted after the suspects attempted to steal the car. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired at both victims.
The suspects then targeted occupants of a second vehicle who stopped to assist. After taking their vehicle, the suspects fled the area, heading north on Compton Avenue. The getaway car was an Acura of light color.
