The fatal collision on Interstate 95 was initially reported to authorities shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning, occurring on the northbound lanes near mile marker 152 in Prince William County, Virginia.

According to Virginia State Police, a 2012 Toyota Corolla was moving north along the highway when it could not prevent striking a pedestrian who had entered the traffic path. This pedestrian was confirmed as Karen S. Rosa Hernandez, a resident of Dumfries, and she did not survive the impact, as she passed away at the scene.

A spokesperson for the police department mentioned that evidence including a gas can was located nearby, and a malfunctioning automobile registered to Hernandez was found a short distance south of the crash site within the express lanes.

Further information regarding the incident has not been released, and the Virginia State Police continue to examine the case to determine all contributing factors.
